Race Report - Welsh Gravity Enduro Series

Last weekend's riding took me to Cwm Carn for some XC riding with team mates Chris and Sarah. It was good to finally see Sarah back on the bike and brilliant to be riding with her! It was also a great opportunity for me to work on my fitness for racing. As everyone does, I was looking forward to a loop at CwmCarn, it has good hard pack terrain and the climbs are well worth the effort for the rewarding descents, however when we arrived we noticed that there was an Enduro event which was being set up and found out that most of the trail centre was closed due to this event. This threw a spanner in the works for our plans for the day as we had travel a fair distance to get there, so we had a chat a decided to enter the race as we were there anyway and we could ride some good loops. This race was a round from the Welsh Gravity Enduro Series and as it?s not a discipline we normally ride we didn?t expect anything results wise and with it being a mash race it meant we could ride together. We climbed to the top of the hill to the start of stage one and for the first warm up run I followed Sarah, she rode this stage really well and was impressed to see she seem even quicker than when I last rode with her. There was a total of four stages on this event and after every one I felt the serious side of me growing, the racer in me - I wanted to do better and better! And after 2 loops we stopped for lunch and I was sat 24th in category at this point and well chuffed. We made a decision to ride another loop to try and improve our times which was hard work at this point as with the climbing and longer descents than downhill racing all the riding was starting to take its toll on my legs! But I pushed through and managed to ride some pretty smooth runs but for myself unfortunately ended up further down the rankings in 38! But Sarah, well she smashed it winning her category by over 40 seconds! Well done Sarah you? an awesome natural talent and what a way to come back from injury!

Big thank you to Chris Crellin, David Webb for loaning me his awesome KONA 153dl, Mitchell Cycles, Team Mitchell Cycles, Schwalbe Tyres, Smith Optics, Reborn Clothing
