B.D.S Round 3: Pre Race Release

B.D.S Round 3: Pre Race Release

Wales takes center stage this coming weekend; hosting the third round of the British National Downhill series. Commonly known as 'Bala' the race course is situated on a vertical descent of 367m in the space of only 1.5kms - hence it's 5/5 difficulty rating.

Last year TMC rocked up to the event - with only beginners experience, team manager David Webb & rider Matt Collins only had one BDS race under their belt, but full of racing optimism they attacked the course.

The course has an abundance of man-made obstacles, with large jumps & berms littered through it. "Bala is SICK; Next weekend will be only my second ever visit there for a race. As far as race tracks go it's probably the best I have competed on in the country. It has everything a track should have. High speed sections, technical gnarly sections, open hillside, dense woodland and a few good size senders. It's a proper dh track!" said the Wiltshire based lad.

Matt made it a great day out and well worth the 312 mile round trip, as he took 21st place in the Shimano Senior men category, our only rider racing this event smashed it with a 4:29.498 recorded run, just 34 seconds off the day's winner.

"I love it there and it's where I had my best finish last year. I've rode it at its best with awesome sunny conditions right through to its worst with serious rain storms. And that's all on the same weekend. In all seriousness this will be my last BDS at Bala so I want to see how competitive I can be" - Matt told us.

With serious excitement growing around the TMC camp for the trip back to Bala, I spoke to Matt's team mate Finn Tennant, who rode the BDS round last year and finished 16th in the same category and he had this to say; "Bala is a blast! It's a great track for riders and spectators alike with everything from big jumps and flat out berms to tight and techy woods. There's even a fence huck! How many other tracks can boast about that?? "

We can't wait to get the bikes on the stand, to prep the pitch and get our racing gear on. Bala - here we come!
