Sarah Crellin | Race Report - Pearce Cycles DH Rd4

Leading up to the race weekend I was optimistic about how the weekend was going to go as I hadn't had much bike time due to work commitments. The week leading up to the race was hectic with getting all of me admin and bike prepped for the weekend ahead. The bike needed much tlc after the bala race weekend, so Thursday night consisted of bleeding the brakes to get them to the required bite, gear tweak and fork set up!

Finishing work Friday and blessed with glorious sunshine I loaded the bike up and was accompanied by my dad who was excited to attend another race and learn some more about the DH community! On arrival we set up in the evening sunshine and the proceeded to walk the course. The course was dry and was running fast. It had a lot to offer with technical switch backs and root sections, which followed in to flowy, flat out jump sections. It was a great track which I was excited about riding.

The beautiful weather was short lived as from the early hours of the morning the rain started which woke me. An early start meant first uplift! Me and Abbi were on the first truck up in the down pour 😂. The track was awesome as it had loads to offer, so much fun in fact we got 12 runs in!

Sunday was the same affair weather wise. The track was slicker in comparison to Saturday morning! In my second practice run I slide out up the top on a root section, put my left leg out to try and save it and twisted my ankle which was followed by a crunch. After composing myself I carried on down the bottom and chilled out ready for the race run.

My ankle was sore but wanted to do both race runs to learn how to get some composure in a race run. My first race run was not smooth up the top section I went out the gate tense which caused me to mess up the first three techy root corners. I tried to stay consistent through the rest of the run but fell off in the second to last corner. My second run wasn't any better apart from staying on, which was a bonus as that's one of the goals I wanted to achieve.

Overall the weekend was awesome; great company and great bike time. On to the next one, hopefully get some more experience with learning how to keep calm for the race run. Although this may prove to be more difficult as its a BDS and I'm nervous just thinking about it!

Sarah took top spot with a 16s gap !
